Are you interested in piano lessons for you or your child? I love teaching beginners the concepts of proper technique and music theory that make a pianist such a solid musician.
-
WHO
- Ages 5 to adult with less than 5 years of piano study
- Students must be reading at a 1st-grade level and able to sit through a 30-minute lesson.
- Parents should inform me of special needs so that I can accommodate the student appropriately.
- CURRICULUM
- I use the Bastien Curriculum and enhance it with other techniques and methods as a student progresses.
-
PRACTICE IS REQUIRED
- I highly encourage consistent practice. I provide incentives for all ages to push their abilities each week. I strive to motivate, however, I will give a few warnings and then will drop students who don't practice. Learning should be fun. Teaching should be fun. Teaching isn't fun when I fail to find what motivates a student and I'm repeating myself. Taking money when the learning processes aren't honored makes me sad. I choose to do what I love and so should my students.
- RECITALS
- I like to have a Spring recital to showcase what has been learned but mostly to help students overcome fears of playing in front of others. Not sharing our talents is hiding our light under a bushel!
Be Inspired by Everything
My dad tuned pianos and acquired a 9' grand for our home from a client. It was a beautiful instrument that took up half of our living room. I wanted to make that big instrument sing! I pulled out my sister's piano books and began to teach myself. Soon, I'd finished the books and wanted to learn more so my parents found the money to add piano lessons to my musical studies. Although I'm not considered an accompanist, I am grateful for the ways that my piano skills have filled in the gaps as a vocalist and director and have helped me better understand music theory.
