Who is Jill Jensen?
MUSIC TRAINING & TEACHING
My musical studies began in the Suzuki Program at the age of 3.5, playing violin for many years. I picked up singing and piano along the way and those eventually won my heart. Like many of you who are reading, I was once a young student who had to learn to practice!
I have a degree in Music Education from Texas Tech University, focusing on choral and vocal music. (1994)
I’ve taught private lessons in voice, piano, and violin since 1994 and I’ve worked with ages 4 to 90… no kidding! Voice is my specialty, focusing on Broadway, Classical and Jazz techniques. I use the Bastien Method for piano students and I like to work with beginners up until about Level 5. I no longer teach violin.
I’ve spent 6 years teaching middle school choir.
I’ve spent 3.5 years teaching preschool music classes.
I’ve spent countless years directing church choirs, including my current assignment as the Stake Music Coordinator in the Tomball Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
I’ve directed 6 musicals.
I’ve directed two community choruses, one made of teenagers and one of senior citizens.
PERFORMER
I sang with the Fort Worth Opera Company in 1996-97. I was in Carmen and The Elixer of Love.
I’ve been a hired soloist for many events and weddings. I love to especially sing in Retirement Centers because I love singing the "oldies".
I sang with the Houston Symphony Chorus for two years.
I sang in Carnegie Hall in 2023 - a bucket list item checked!
PERSONAL LIFE
I’m married to a very talented guy who plays piano, organ, and percussion. We love to write and create choir arrangements together and have started a publishing business. See www.flatlandpress.com for more!
I have three children of my own and taught them all to play piano and sing; plus I have 4 bonus sons, 3 daughters-in-law, a son-in-law, and two grandsons! 😊 All of our children are grown and gone except for the youngest who attends Klein Cain High School.
I love to cook healthy foods, then I bake yummy desserts. I love to travel. I enjoy decorating. I make wreaths and balloon garlands, whether to use in my home or to give away. Floating in my pool is my favorite "exercise".
I like to organize events and work through details to make anything and everything efficiently run. I like making goals and then accomplishing them. My current goal: I'm writing a few children's books and hope to publish them in the next year.
